Topic: Isolation Room Design, Research and Construction for the healthcare industry.
Speaker: Traci Hanegan, P.E., LEED AP BD+C, Principal, Mechanical Engineer, Coffman Engineers, Inc.
Traci Hanegan is part of the Coffman Engineers leadership as Principal Mechanical Engineer for the Spokane office. She is an ASHRAE Certified Healthcare Facility Design Professional (HFDP) and has extensive experience in healthcare, laboratory, university, data center, zoological and office building design, and has also performed postgraduate research on geothermal heat pump systems while attending the University of Idaho. She has been very active in ASHRAE at the local, regional, and national level. Traci has served on the Board of Directors as director and regional chair of Region XI; she is currently a voting member of the ASHRAE Technical Committee for Healthcare Facilities where she was heavily involved in the re-writing of the ASHRAE Design Manual for Hospitals and Clinics; and was awarded a Distinguished Service Award at the 2013 Annual Conference in Denver. Additionally, Traci has served as an adjunct professor for the Mechanical Engineering Department at Gonzaga University where she taught HVAC classes.
At ASHRAE’s Winter Conference later this month, Traci Hanegan will be one of three speakers that will be heading up a seminar on Isolation Room Design, Research and Construction for the healthcare industry. Traci has agreed to provide our chapter with a preview of her portion of the presentation.
ASHRAE Winter Conference Seminar Overview:
Airborne infectious isolation rooms are in almost every area of the hospital. Research and design guidance tells us the “theoretical” requirements for design, construction, and operation of these rooms. However, existing conditions, room locations, and other factors have led to isolation rooms that have not been able to meet the theoretical desired design or were able to maintain pressure differential without modifying the HVAC system after construction. This seminar presents on-the-job practical issues impacting the research, design and construction of isolation rooms to maintain the containment effectiveness.
Chicago 2015 Conference:
2015 Winter Conference
ASHRAE is excited to return to Chicago for the 2015 Winter Conference, its historically best-attended event. Attendees can discuss the latest topics in the building industry; participate in technical tours; attend ASHRAE Learning Institute courses; earn professional credits; and obtain ASHRAE certifications. Chicago also serves as the site of the AHR Expo, co-sponsored by ASHRAE and held in conjunction with the Winter Conference.
